About The Gryphon Chronicles

There are 9 Books in The Gryphon Chronicles all centered around the adventures of our boy hero, Jake Everton, and his band of friends, each with varying personalities, interests, and skill sets they bring to the table. There is magic and magical creatures, an all-ages cast, a wide range of Victorian-inspired fantastical settings, a big, epic journey balanced by humor and friendship, and tons of action and adventure. The books also have a lot of heart.

The books start off light, but then build in intensity as we move through the series. Jake and his friends face off against bigger and more diabolical villains all along the way. And by book 9, our boy hero must sacrifice everything he holds dear and enter the eternal battle of Good vs. Evil.

It seems that people who like Harry Potter, Percy Jackson, Fablehaven, Keeper of the Lost Cities, books like that, tend to like The Gryphon Chronicles, too.

Most readers consider The Gryphon Chronicles on the clean & wholesome side of things. There is no profanity, drugs, "adult" situations, etc. We recommend 10 and up for the series as a general rule although we've had parents tell us their younger children have read or listened to the series. The first two books are fairly light and playful - fairytale like - age appropriate for basically everyone. But just as with the Harry Potter books, things get a little scarier and the storylines get more intense as the series progresses (starting at Book 3). It's quite an emotional rollercoaster by the time we get to books 6-9.

In the later books, another caution is that there is some puppy-love/romance in the air between characters and also "fantasy violence," kind of like the battle scenes in The Lord of the Rings. We make a great effort to not be overly gory, but sometimes it just can't be avoided. And we always try to balance the scary parts with a big dose of humor.

It's worth mentioning... though technically for readers ages 10-14, we always aim for that "family adventure movie" feel in our books. The kind of fun, feel-good story that's exciting and funny enough for upper elementary to middle-school kids, cool enough for teens, and smart/layered enough to entertain adults. Our fan base seems pretty evenly spread over the age categories from 10-year-old boys to grandmas and everyone in-between.

We don't want to give any spoilers, but no kid or teen characters (or their pets) die in our books. We are adamant believers in happy endings. Mainly it's just "fantasy violence," like fighting monsters and the worst of the magical bad guys, but some villains even end up getting redeemed, and we always balance the intense parts with humor. There's a lot of whimsy, too, that helps keep the overall tone positive. But with that said, we know everyone has different levels of sensitivity, so it's really hard to say where exactly the level of violence in The Gryphon Chronicles would land with each individual reader.

Yes. Except for the Christmas novella, which can be enjoyed at any time, the 9 main books in The Gryphon Chronicles series should be read in order.
