All the above and, of course, Little Women. Also Freckles, by Gene Stratton Porter, Captain’s Courageous by Rudyard Kipling, The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis, the final installment of GC and my own Memoir.

Gael here... I know, I know—writers are supposed to be in control of their stories... but sometimes, my own characters make me laugh, smile, and yes—ugly cry! 😭💔
Seriously, there have been moments while writing The Gryphon Chronicles when tears were streaming down my face as I typed. But if you’re a booklover, you totally get it, right? Books should make you FEEL. That’s the magic of storytelling.
Some books hit us right in the emotions—the kind where you have to pause, take a deep breath, and maybe go hug your dog before you can keep reading. Here are a few that wrecked me in the best way:
😭 The Magician’s Elephant by Kate DiCamillo (My heart still aches just thinking about it!)
😭 The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein (Why, Shel, why?!)
😭 Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White (You KNOW the scene. Don’t even try to pretend you didn’t cry.)
Some stories make you laugh until your stomach hurts 🤣, and others squeeze your heart until you sob into your pillow 😭. Both are signs of a truly great book!
